Mary Carrol

Sarasota Program Director

Mary Carrol is a retired community college teacher and licensed mental health professional who recently relocated from Orlando. Eager to engage with an organization focused on educating and mentoring new immigrants, she found her place at NicerFL, which she considers a privilege and a blessing.  At NicerFL, Mary coordinates the sessions at the Sarasota center and teaches English to children aged 4-13, primarily from Ukraine, and is committed to helping them navigate the challenges of adapting to a new culture and language.  She believes that language learning is a powerful tool to break down the barriers immigrants face in a foreign country.

Mary appreciates being part of something larger than herself, as NicerFL creates not only an educational environment but also a safe community for learning.  Witnessing the progress of each child brings her a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment.  She finds immense joy in seeing the smiles on their faces as they gain confidence in their language skills.  For Mary, the experience is profoundly rewarding; she feels she receives far more than she gives, making her contribution to NicerFL a truly enriching endeavor.
