Program Director, Volunteer Coordinator - Sarasota

I am a retired community college teacher and licensed mental health professional. I recently moved here from Orlando and was looking to find an organization dedicated to educating, mentoring, and creating a community for new immigrants. I consider it a privilege and a blessing to be a small part of NicerFl., who is truly making a difference in the lives of so many.

As a Ph.D. sociology student, my journey is fueled by my dedication to social change. My involvement with NicerFL has strengthened this commitment. Witnessing the tutors’ relentless support for newcomer im/migrant and refugee students and the students’ unwavering dedication has inspired me immensely. Each interaction with these students reaffirms my belief in the power of community support in fostering meaningful change. In my academic pursuits and practical engagements, I aim to blend theory with real-world impact. My goal is to amplify marginalized voices and break down systemic barriers, fostering a more inclusive society.
